Scientific Programmer in Earth System Modelling
The Role
The Climate and Environmental Physics division of the University of Bern, Switzerland, is searching for an outstanding and motivated Scientific Programmer in Earth system modelling to support the development, maintenance, and application of their climate model hierarchy. Responsibilities include implementing new features in NOAA GFDL's climate model, contributing to the Bern3D-LPX model, and collaborating with leading scientists in Horizon Europe projects. The role involves the use of high-performance computing systems and interaction with various research groups within the university.
Requirements
Master's degree in software engineering, data science, computer science, mathematics, physics, climate science, oceanography, or related fields. Proficiency in Fortran, Julia, C or other programming languages, and Python, Matlab or other scripting languages. Experience with version control systems like Git, high-performance computing, and parallel data processing is beneficial. Proficiency in English is essential. A PhD is preferred.
